What is the CDM Advisor to the Principal Designer?

The CDM Advisor to the Principal Designer is a role that we perform in which we advise the Principal Designer in matters relating to health and safety during the pre-construction and construction phase.

As part of this role, we provide the Principal Designer with advice on risk mitigation, design risk management, and best practice application of the current legislation.

What does this service cover?

The scope of services can include:

​

  • Advising the Principal Designer of their statuary duties under the CDM 2015 Regulations.

  • Provision of reports & audits to ensure there are suitable arrangements in place during the pre-construction and construction phase.

  • Ensuring that designers comply with their duties

  • Conducting and assisting design safety review meetings

  • Provision of design risk management guidance and documentation.

  • Assistance with the compilation and issue of pre-construction information

  • Assistance with the preparation and issue of the Health and Safety file.

When does my business need a CDM Advisor for Principal Designer?

The CDM Advisor can be appointed at any stage of the project lifecycle. It is very much dependent on the competency of the organisation or individual. We do however recommend that the appointment is made as soon as possible to enable the early implementation of good practice design risk management.

Why does my business need a CDM Advisor for Principal Designer?

The CDM Advisor will be able to assist the Principal Designer in meeting their obligations which are set out under the CDM 2015 Regulations. As a Principal Designer, the organisation or individuals conducting the role will need to consider whether they have the competence to carry out the role and fulfil the duties under the CDM 2015 regulations.
