Questions we are often asked

What is SSIP?

SSIP is an abbreviation of Safety Schemes in Procurement.

A huge problem for contractors is the need to be assessed by multiple health & safety schemes often asking similar questions. This creates a burden of paperwork for small construction businesses. The HSE supports the work of SSIP to simplify prequalification and to encourage straightforward mutual recognition between its Member Schemes.

By becoming health & safety assessed by a member scheme within the SSIP umbrella you will have satisfied the criteria for all other SSIP members’ schemes such as CHAS, Acclaim, Achilles, and Safe Contractor

All assessments completed by Member Schemes are completed utilising the SSIP Core Criteria which is aligned to the Government-backed construction pre-qualification document PAS 91, ensuring consistency within supply chain management.
